Turkey Tours: The Bicycle Tour

bicycletour (1)There are all kinds of interesting ways to get from here to there. So, it goes without saying that there are many ways of getting around Turkey. There was for example the summer my wife and rented bikes and rode around Antalya visiting parts of the city less accessible by public transport. It was the end of June and the heat was up so we stopped every five to ten minutes in the shade to shelter ourselves from the sun and we dubbed ourselves the “Shade Riders” as we were either in the shade or riding our bikes.

bicycletour (3)There are then the serious bike riders who love the feeling of the wind on their face as they accelerate to speeds of up to 70 km an hour, downhill of course, and who are looking for something a little more extreme than our pleasant jaunt around town. For those there is the bicycle tour. The bicycle tour is more than anything an opportunity for a group of bicyclers to break the routine and get out together to a destination with new scenery. Turkey is a common location for those who are either looking to glance into the ancient world while riding their bikes along roads that the Hittites, Persians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Selçuks, Ottomans and Turks traveled or it a place for those who are looking for the beauty of the Mediterranean while riding the beautiful coastal roads that wind back and forth along the long Anatolian shoreline.

bicycletour (4)These kinds of trips are best ventured in the late spring and early fall when the rains have not yet come and the roads are moderately less busy. It is a beautiful time with the fresh smell of flowers and pollen in the air first leads us to sneeze and then wipe our nose and enjoy the smell of the tulips,  poppies and roses. Some come and travel on an adventure of their own following the ancient routes of the Apostle Paul as he journeyed through Asia Minor, yet others come and travel in large groups and enjoy the comfort of an accompanying bus in case they cramp up. Their families maybe not nearly as excited about an all out exercise filled vacation travel in the bus enjoying the beauty of Turkey from an air conditioned vantage point.

Whatever your preferred method of traveling you can find it in Turkey and we can help you with that at Dos Plumas. We have experience booking tours for groups like Cycle Mission who came a year and a half ago and visited the seven cities to whom the book of Revelation was written in the Bible. We can book transportation to and from starting and ending points and book great hotels along the way for you to stay in great comfort while traveling light. Have a great ride.
