In the early days of excavation artifacts were taken to the British Museum and to the Ephesus Museum in Vienna. Later Turkey outlawed taking archeological artifacts out of the country, so you will find all of the discoveries since 1924 in the museum located in Selcuk, about a 70km drive from Izmir.

It doesn’t take long to go through the small museum, but the artifacts they have there are well worth the visit. After visiting the museum, you can visit the Isa Bey Mosque and St John Basicalla that are close by.
