Tour Turkey: Topkapi Palace in Istanbul

When touring in Sultan Ahmet in Istanbul, there are many different museums and historical sites that you can visit. The Topkapi Palace is among one of the most famous museums in the area as well as listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Topkapi was built by Sultan Mehmed II and served as the residence for the Ottoman Sultans and their courts for 400 years. Overlooking the Sea of Marmara and the Golden Horn, the palace complex is intricate in design with secret passage ways, harem, courtyards and buildings sitting on the highest point in the area with views of the Bosphorus.

There is a restaurant in Topkapi Palace, that is open for lunch. The views are beautiful , but in my opinion a little expensive for just average food. If you’re hungry you can find many wonderful restaurants in the area that are moderately priced.

Topkapi Palace is open 9am – 5pm and is closed on Tuesdays. Admission is approximately $15 USD to the palace and to see the Harem, you must join a guided tour and the entrance fee is an additional $10 USD.
